Change the First Thought Of Your Day and Change Your Day
You find yourself feeling like you have the same day over and over with nothing changing. You wake up, lay in bed, get up, brush your teeth, have coffee, get dressed, eat breakfast, start work. It feels like the same thing over and over and over again. You might even know that it’s not, yet it feels that way.
You’re in a funk, you’re irritated, you’re bored and you don’t know what to do.
You think you should be able to get out of the funk, yet why does it happen over and over?
Recently, I’ve been revisiting teachings around how thoughts create our reality. I even had my kids watch ‘What the Bleep Do we Know?’. They really enjoyed it and it helped them understand why I always challenge them with questions like:
- What are you thinking?
- Why did you do that?
- What was going through your head when you made that choice?
Within a week of watching the movie, I had 2 conversations with clients that surrounded Joe Dispenza’s teachings and books. I looked at my Kindle library and realized I had purchased his book, ‘Evolve Your Brain’ back in 2012, yet hadn’t read it. Now was the time. As I’m working my way through the book along with another book of his called, ‘Becoming Supernatural’, I am realizing how much of a routine that I’m in. I’m even listening to those meditations I purchased 7 years ago! .
These moments when I realize that I’m stuck in humanity frustrate me as I often feel that on this path of Ascension, I shouldn’t feel stuck. Then I sense my Higher Self chuckling as we live in a human body on the 3rd planet from the sun. This planet is setup to teach us and support us to find higher consciousness, yet it doesn’t always feel fun. With the gift of free will, we always have a choice to make.
Last night while reading ‘Becoming Supernatural,’ he talked about the first thoughts of our day and how patterned we are in our thoughts and how that then affects our entire day. I found myself wondering what my first thought would be the next day.
So, this morning, as I woke up, I watched my thoughts. I stayed in bed for 10 minutes or so, which I normally don’t do. I watched my thoughts start to go through my long to-do list for the day.
Then, I said ’No!, I’m going to choose a different thought.’
It was wonderful to have that moment of ‘No, I choose’, rather than the plethora of routine thoughts that were filling my mind. My choice was to stop thinking about my to-do list and to simply think about laying in bed and enjoying it. It was wonderful!
Our thoughts do create our reality or rather our perception of the reality around us. Noticing our thoughts and changing them requires that we slow down. Yeah, yeah, I know, everyone says that. As someone who moves through life quickly and is a constant problem solver, learner, and seeker, I get it.
I loved this idea of noticing the first thought of my day.
It has shifted my perception of my day. As I chose a new thought and allowed myself the space to create what I wanted, I have had an increased awareness all morning of my thoughts. This one simple action of noticing the first thought of the day somehow shifted the energy. When we notice the first thought of the day, we interrupt the pattern of the daily grind.
In that interruption, something new has the opportunity to unfold.
Step 1. Before Bed Tonight, Set the Intention
Before you go to bed tonight, take a moment and remind yourself that you want to notice your thoughts first thing in the morning. It might take several days as you work to interrupt the pattern.
Step 2. Notice Your First Thought of the Day
When you wake up, notice your first thought. You might remember first thing or you might remember halfway through that cup of coffee. It’s OK, just notice it then and choose a different thought.
Change the pattern and see what kind of openings occur for you throughout the day.
If you feel inspired, share them below, I would love to know what shifts for you.
