As we head into a year of transformation and mastery in 2020, I have been pondering the idea of ego and where it fits into the ascension journey. An attitude held by many segments of the spiritual community is that the ego is something that must be subdued, squashed, and tamed. If 2020 symbolizes huge potential for raising our consciousness and vibration, should we not be striving to heal this part of ourselves that can slow down this journey, rather than bury it or attempt to control it? What is the ego, anyway?
Simply put, ego is the Latin word for ‘I’. In Psychology, the ego became a hot topic of discussion during the time of Sigmund Freud. Freud referred to the ‘I’ as the conscious decision making part of ourselves. We, at times, regard ego as being self-centered and think only of the negative and unwanted aspects of the ego, such as jealousy, anger, blame, and revenge. In order to kill the ego, spiritual aspirants would join a monastery or hide away in a cave to live a selfless life away from society.
We forget the ego also has a positive purpose. It can give us a healthy sense of self, help us solve problems and make decisions, help us develop positive relationships, and help us guide our behaviour. It is important to our well being and deserves to be healed.
The other thing we need to remember is that healing the ego is an ongoing process and essential to our ascension journey. As we move along the path of ascension and through initiations to ‘the next level’, we can become egoic in our view of ourselves. The ascension ladder is a very long one, and no matter where we are on it, our purpose is to strive for heart based thoughts, words, and deeds in order to increase our vibration and frequency and not accumulate more karma. If we have not healed our ego, the negative aspects can hold us back, keep us down, and knock us off a rung.
We then realize that the purpose of the healed ego is to accomplish our Divine purpose here on Earth! As stated earlier, many in the past felt the ego impeded a spiritual life, but the healed ego can actually become the channel through which we accomplish our Divine purpose!
I was reminded of this notion of healing the ego while working with a Reiki client a couple of weeks ago. The Holy Fire III Reiki energy can help heal the ego more thoroughly and with ease and grace. It can heal unhealed dormant energy. Because the Holy Fire III energy purifies, heals, empowers, and guides, the client becomes a partner in the process and stands in their own power. If we can heal our ego by transforming the negative aspects into positive alternatives, we will also be raising our frequency and vibration and living with heart based thoughts, words, and deeds. For example, if we can heal our jealousy, we then admire others and see the value they add to society. If we can heal our fear, we can engage in an activity with confidence and have a healthy learning experience. If we heal our feelings of revenge and blame, we then forgive and love ourselves and others and are free of the negativity. If we heal our anger, we become more patient, and we can transform worry into trust, arrogance into humility, and so forth.
I am reminded of the book Power Versus Force by Dr. David Hawkins. Dr. Hawkins discusses the difference between Power and Force. He states,
“Power appeals to what uplifts, dignifies, and ennobles. Force must always be justified, whereas power requires no justification. Force is associated with the partial, power with the whole.” Dr. Hawkins also assigns vibratory frequencies to emotions and attributes. For instance, the lowest vibratory emotions are shame, guilt, and condemnation. The higher vibratory attributes are compassion, love, and peace.
If the purpose of our ascension journey is to raise our vibration, light, and radiancy, then we must aspire to compassion, love, and peace – those attributes and emotions that are of God. If we are moving into the new year of transformation and mastery, we will be called to stand in our own power. When we stand in our truth with our ego healed and intact, we become whole in the true sense of the word. Develop and nurture a state of gratitude for the opportunities to heal your ego, and you will more easily merge with the power, wisdom, and love of your Higher Self.
